UV Light

UV Light

Almost every state uses some sort of ultraviolet feature on its genuine identity documents. The ID Experts examine thousands of counterfeit IDs every year. Approximately 95 percent of those counterfeits have a UV feature. In addition to the proliferation of counterfeit UV features, The ID Experts have found that the counterfeit UV is frequently brighter, crisper and more vivid than the genuine UV features.

UV lights are only effective in a dark environment, making it more difficult for the human eye to make a critical examination. Given the quality and quantity of counterfeit UV features and the dark environment that an ID checker must use, the UV security feature is unreliable.

During our training classes, students will see and handle hundreds of genuine and counterfeit IDs using magnifiers and UV light to demonstrate how unreliable the UV feature is.

The ID Experts do not recommend relying on the UV security feature to detect counterfeit IDs.
